NCGrowth supports RadixBay’s effort to reshore IT to rural NC

by Abe Katz
RadixBay is an IT consulting and managed services organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Founded in the summer of 2013, RadixBay has built a book of business consulting, containing a variety of companies ranging in size and industry. In addition to providing traditional onsite IT consultation, RadixBay’s managed services operations include strategic IT planning, application development and implementation, and ongoing managed services.
Currently, the firm employs a workforce of approximately 35 individuals across its Charlotte headquarters and its Rural Development and Support Center located in Tabor City, NC. While RadixBay also has operations in India, it is in the process of sunsetting these operations and migrating these work functions to its Tabor City location, as part of its strategic transformation. The mission of RadixBay is to provide quality IT services from local talent in rural North Carolina, ultimately competing with the offshore IT consulting model.
The rural center in Tabor City began operations in the summer of 2016 and moved into its current facility in the Brunswick Electric Business Incubator in the first part of 2017. RadixBay partnered with NCGrowth for the fall semester in 2017 for support in two areas. First, NCGrowth identified promising government programs RadixBay can use for its workforce development. Second, NCGrowth synthesized trends in the IT consulting industry to support RadixBay’s marketing efforts and competitive positioning.
The result of the project was a detailed inventory of relevant government programs, including diverse initiatives from agencies such as the Department of Commerce, the NC Community College System, and the Department of Defense. During the course of the project, the NCGrowth analyst facilitated many conversations between relevant administrators and the senior recruiter and Chief Operations Officer at RadixBay; they will continue conversations with these program consultants to identify, develop, and hire promising IT talent from the Tabor City area.
