NC's Firefest: Celebrating the Role of Fire in Creativity

STARworks Center for Creative Enterprise is a place where artists come to do innovative projects they wouldn’t have the time or money to do in their day-to-day work lives, in short and longer-term residencies. There’s a hot shop for glass artists, kilns for ceramic artists and the tools and space needed for iron working. The center is one way Star has sought to bolster its economy since a hosiery mill’s departure in 2001 left it searching for
new direction.
Join STARworks for a 2-day festival celebrating the role of fire in the creation of art! STARworks Open Studios will be held Friday evening to give visitors the opportunity to try working with hot glass, metal or clay. Workshops will be available for those who are serious about a particular medium.
Nancy Callan will be the featured glass artist. Ceramic artist Sergei Isupov has been invited to create a clay sculpture. Liberty Arts Non-Profit Foundry & Sculpture Studio of Durham will conduct the iron pour. All guest artists will hold slide shows and participate in finale events involving fire.
