NCGrowth partnered with the Construction Professionals Network Institute (CPNI) to conduct a two-day economic development workshop in Roseboro, NC, on April 6th and 7th. CPNI is a statewide membership organization of business and professional leaders in the design and construction industry. The organization holds workshops to help communities improve their physical and economic environment, providing recommendations on how the built environment can be leveraged to improve a town’s economy.

The Waccamaw Siouan Tribe (WST) is one of eight state-recognized American Indian tribes in North Carolina. Its modern incorporation dates to 1971, and its citizens live in Columbus and Bladen counties. In 1991, the tribe established the Waccamaw Siouan Tribal Daycare, licensed under the North Carolina Department of Childcare Development and Early Education. The daycare is committed to providing affordable, quality childcare to families in the area, serving children ages 0 – 4 years old.

NCGrowth Helps Unshakeable Builders Identify New Markets

Unshakeable Builders is a construction firm founded in 2008 by Dewitt Newkirk. The firm first focused on residential and commercial renovations, but has since transitioned into residential new home construction in Pitt County. Their goal is for new home construction to make up a larger percentage of their project portfolio. To accomplish this goal, the firm plans to expand the scope of their operations to include markets that experience higher median home values and a larger amount of new home construction.

TBLC opened in 1993 with 17 employees and has grown to employ over 35 employees today. TBLC engaged NCGrowth to help optimize their data aggregation and reporting process to free up the time of key staff members.

Tortillas Carolina is a tortilla manufacturer located in St. Pauls, North Carolina, and founded in 2008 by Enrique Elizondo. The company produces tortilla products, namely chips and table tortillas, for the restaurant and supermarket industries. In addition to selling tortilla products through the restaurant, distributor, and retail channels, Tortillas Carolina also owns and operates two restaurants and a catering business.

Norman Showcase Academy (NSA) is an indoor athletic complex in St. Pauls, North Carolina that provides training for youth baseball teams. The mission statement of the organization is “helping youth reach their highest potential through athletics.” NCGrowth partnered with NSA’s owner, Starsky Norman, to help organize the company’s financial recordkeeping, launch the company’s website, identify opportunities for additional revenue, and create models for future growth.

Golden Leaf Foundation
NCGrowth Expands Impact into Sandhills with Golden Leaf Foundation

NCGrowth expanded its work with local governments and growing businesses in the Sandhills Region of North Carolina in 2016 with funding from the Golden Leaf Foundation. In the first year of expansion, NCGrowth has worked with 11 businesses through its Entrepreneurial Technical Assistance Program (ETAP). These businesses collectively employ 162 people and half are minority-owned.
