The Support Center’s commitment to creating economic opportunity in North Carolina

The Support Center (TSC) is a statewide nonprofit and Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) based in Raleigh, N.C., dedicated to fostering economic development in underserved communities by providing capital, business services and policy research to support small businesses in the state.
As job creators and generators of local economic development, small businesses are the economic engines of communities across the state. However, many entrepreneurs face barriers in accessing affordable capital, particularly in recent years. TSC’s Small Business Revolving Loan programs helps to bridge this gap.
TSC builds relationships with small businesses to better understand their needs and serves as the helping hand and guidance that provides financial trainings and workshops for the continued success of small business owners.
To date, TSC has made 313 small business loans totaling $21.5 million. Our small business borrowers have created or retained a total of 741 jobs. TSC has also been able to help start-ups get off the ground since 2010.
TSC’s loan programs are unique among nonprofit lenders because TSC:

  • Serves both existing and start-up businesses
  • Provides gap financing
  • Underwrites and service loans in-house
  • Requires only 10 percent injection, whereas most lenders require 20-30 percent
  • Provides loan amounts from $5,000 to $250,000

TSC is headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., and has two satellite offices, one in Charlotte, N.C., and another in Asheville, N.C. TSC also has a Western Women’s Business Center (WWBC) in Asheville, which provides high quality technical assistance and programs that reduce barriers and serve as catalyst to the success of entrepreneurs, particularly women, who are socially and economically disadvantaged, in the western region of North Carolina.
