The Institute Welcomes LaChaun Banks as Economic Development Coordinator

LaChaun has been tapped to serve as Economic Development Coordinator and oversee the day-to-day operational activities of the NC Strategic Economic Growth initiative at UNC’s Kenan Institute. She will assist in the development and implementation of strategies to help boost the economy of distressed counties in North Carolina.
She will engage partner organizations across North Carolina, regional businesses, faculty, students and others as they work collectively to develop and execute initiatives to encourage entrepreneurial activity for economic development.
LaChaun has nine years of experience in human resources, customer relations and business operations. She earned a BA in International Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with a concentration in global economics, trade, and development. As a Phillips Ambassador scholar at UNC, LaChaun studied in Hong Kong at the Chinese University where she gained knowledge on Asian business and management and Chinese government and politics.
In a previous role as a commercialization manager, LaChaun helped to create business plans for advanced technologies for a local aerospace company. She is also certified by the National Industrial Security Program as a Facility Security Officer, and was responsible for obtaining personnel government security clearances as well as facility security clearances. As executive assistant to the dean of Kenan-Flagler Business School, LaChaun interacted with high-level donors, C-Suite clients, students and faculty members of the business school, as well as coordinating the day-to-day functions of the dean.
